Keep Vancouver Spectacular -Post Event Recap

On Saturday May 10th from 10-12pm, the South Hill Business Association hosted it`s annual Keep Vancouver Spectacular cleanup event in South Hill. That morning 41 volunteers showed up and braved the rainy, cold weather to make a positive difference in South Hill cleaning up the garbage on Fraser Street. Equipped with their supplies and their determination to clean up the area, they all pitched in to make a positive difference.

Volunteers were treated to refreshments including bottled water from several BIA business members including Rexall and Buy Low Foods, hot chocolate, coffee and Timbits from Tim Horton`s and Samosas from Rokko`s Sareees.

We were impressed and enthusiastic to see so many volunteers show up and contribute to a cleaner neighbourhood and city of Vancouver. Thank you for your help!

On behalf of the South Hill BIA we would like to thank all the volunteers who came out, the city of Vancouver for allowing us the great opportunity to do events like these and for all the help with the delivery of supplies and pickup of garbage afterwards. We`d also like to thank the sponsors for their contributions to refreshments and prizes to the volunteers.

It was a smashing success despite the rain and we look forward to seeing you all at the next one!

2014 South Hill Festival Saturday May 24th!

The 12th annual South Hill Festival is back for the final year and will take place on Saturday May 24th from 12-4 pm. This community event celebrates the South Hill Neighborhood and is fun for the whole family with a variety of different exhibitors, live entertainment, a diverse food fair and networking opportunities with local organizations that showcase the diversity that makes up South Hill. It’s the final year the Festival will be happening and it promises to be fun for everyone attending.

This year’s festival theme is “Food For Thought.”
As we celebrate sustenance that is local, sustainable, healthy and bursting with world flavours, we also want to explore how a flourishing community provides nourishment for the body, mind and soul.

Join us in community art, learn about growing vegetables, shoot a few baskets, climb the 24′ Wall, watch a variety of performers on stage or at street level, check out the BIA foor fair and network with a variety of different local organizations.

As part of the festivities this year the South Hill BIA is hosting a Food Fair on East 47th and Fraser. The Food Fair will feature several BIA member restaurants, each offering a different culinary experience for the public to enjoy.

So far the confirmed food fair participants include Dairy Queen, Magda’s Restaurant, and Pizza Plus.

Musical entertainment include returning band lesismore and their opening act musician Dave Paterson.

2014 Chinese New Year Lion Dance Celebration! (February 15th at Noon!)

The South Hill Business Association would like to ring in the Chinese New Year with the annual Lion Dance Celebration in South Hill! The event is open to the public and we encourage you to bring your friends and family out on February 15th at Noon to celebrate the Chinese New Year with us. There will be the traditional Chinese New Year Lion Dance as the lion makes their way down Fraser Street and wishes our merchants and property owners much success this year! The lion dance will start at 12 noon with a ceremony in front of Sunny Electronics at 5806 Fraser Street on Fraser and 42nd Avenue.

Keep Vancouver Spectacular – South Hill Cleanup Event

The holidays are quickly approaching and to prepare for the hustle and bustle of the holiday season on Fraser Street the South Hill BIA is planning a neighbourhood cleanup to help clean the streets of South Hill and contribute to a cleaner South Hill area and city in time for the holidays.

We are inviting you all to come participate in a few hours of contributing to a cleaner city and to also have some fun with other passionate volunteers. We will have refreshments available and a chance for volunteers to walk away with some prizes donated by some of the sponsors of this event.

No experience is neccessary and we are encouraging everyone to come out to help us Keep Vancouver Spectacular!

South Hill Festival Recap

On May 25th, 2013, the South Hill BIA hosted a food fair as the 11th annual South Hill Festival returned to Fraser Street. Thankfully the weather stayed relatively dry for the most part and the festival was well attended in general. This year the BIA featured four participating restaurants in the food fair including two newer additions to South Hill. The cuisines of Dairy Queen, Magda’s Restaurant, Pizza Plus and Lovely Thai Restaurant kept the festival crowd happy with great offerings of different cuisines while Jim Cook and Lesismore provided the musical entertainment. Overall it was a great success and the South Hill BIA would like to thank all the participating restaurants, organizations, sponsors, and volunteers who made this event a great success. We look forward to seeing you all at future South Hill events and at the festival next year!

2013 South Hill Festival (May 25th)

The 11th annual South Hill Festival is happening on Saturday May 25th from 12-4 pm. This festival is a community event that celebrates the South Hill neighbourhood.

Again this year the South Hill BIA is hosting a Food Fair as part of the festivities. The Food Fair will be located on East 47th and Fraser Street and will comprise of several member restaurants including Dairy Queen, Magda’s Restaurant, Pizza Plus, and Lovely Thai Restaurant.
Make sure to visit the Food Fair and have a tasty lunch with friends and family!

Musical entertainment is by Jim Cook (12-1 pm) and lesismore (1-4 pm) in the Food Fair area.

2013 Keep Vancouver Spectacular Event. Thank You to all our volunteers and sponsors!

On May 4th 2013, the South Hill Business Association along with over 70 volunteers participated in the Annual Keep Vancouver Spectacular event in South Hill. They spent the morning cleaning the streets and parking lots from 41st Ave to 50th Ave on Fraser Street. The weather was gorgeous and the enthusiasm and energy of the volunteers was high. A group of volunteers was so dedicated to this annual cleanup event they showed up almost 30 minutes before registration was set to begin which was great to see. After the cleanup volunteers were treated to a selection of refreshments, beverages and pizzas as a small thank you. The South Hill Business Association wrapped up the event with several draw prizes to distribute including gift baskets, certificates, merchandise and gift cards.

This event wouldn’t have been possible without the enthusiasm and participation of all the volunteers who showed up to clean the area and contribute to a cleaner city. We would also like to express a sincere Thank you to the participating BIA members who sponsored the event and provided refreshments, beverages, and draw prizes. Your participation was greatly appreciated and helped make this event a fun success.

Keep Vancouver Spectacular 2013 on May 4th 2013

Vancouver is one of the best places in the world to live in, so on May 4th 2013 let’s do our part in keeping it that way! The annual Keep Vancouver Spectacular Event will be held in various parts of the city and volunteer teams will be doing their part to clean up and contribute to a cleaner, more sustainable Vancouver .

Come join the South Hill BIA as we team up with our business members and volunteers in the community to clean up Fraser Street on May 4th.
This is a great way to get involved in the community and to volunteer for a worthy cause.

This event is open to everyone and we encourage you to bring your friends, colleagues and family and create your own clean up team!

2013 Chinese New Year Lion Dance Event: Thank You to all our sponsors!

On a gorgeous, sunny afternoon on Saturday February 16th, the South Hill Business Association hosted the 2013 Chinese New Year Lion Dance in South Hill Celebration event. The event was to celebrate the Chinese New Year and ring in the Year of the Snake. 18 participating businesses helped sponsor the event and got an exclusive performance by the Lions in front of their business. The grand opening ceremony was attended by a large crowd and MLA Mable Elmore in front of Vancity on 47th and Fraser. Coffee was served to the public as the ceremony went on and the lions danced down both sides of the street along Fraser.
