VANCOUVER, July 11, 2018 – One of seven locations approved for a fast charging EHub station by Vancouver City Council is in the South Hill Business Area (SHBA) of Fraser Street. The SHBA commercial district covers Fraser Street from 41st to 50th avenues. Through July 2018, City contractors and BC Hydro will install two DC Fast Charging stations and two Level 2 stations at the northeast corner section of the parking lot located directly south of 44th Avenue at Fraser Street. The parking lot is one of several that stretch the length of Fraser Street between 43rd and 49th avenues, located behind the west Fraser Street shops.
“We are looking forward to South Hill becoming a ‘green-friendly’ commercial community for motorists from across Vancouver and the Lower Mainland and to adding our location to the national network of stations available to the visiting public. With car manufacturers poised to release a number of new electric vehicles into the marketplace next year and with the price of gasoline rising everywhere, the timing feels right to make a contribution to reduce pollution and be in step with the City’s mandate,” stated Susan Lilholt, Executive Director of the South Hill Business Association, one of 22 Business Improvement Areas (BIAs) in Vancouver.
“Several factors came together to make this location ideal for an EHub installation,” says Ian Neville, Climate Policy Analyst for the City, “and the City’s investment here is part of the 2016 EV Ecosystem Strategy that will ensure EHubs are within easy reach of residents, near convenient amenities across the city. This location supports fast public charging in a key East Vancouver neighbourhood, ensuring better access for nearby residents and businesses. The charging stations here are the seventh and eighth DC Fast Chargers to be installed within Vancouver, with many more on the way.”
